Meat Me Halfway

Client: Reducetarian Productions
Creative Direction: Yoke
Animation: Marta Azaña & Matt Wilson

The documentary Meat Me Halfway takes a fresh look at the challenges and possibilities of cutting back on meat without going fully plant-based. Brian Kateman, founder of the Reducetarian Movement, shares his own journey of eating less meat while juggling conflicting advice, cultural traditions, and everyday pressures. Along the way, he chats with experts, farmers, and regular people to explore the environmental, ethical, and health aspects of meat consumption. Instead of pushing an all-or-nothing approach, the film focuses on finding a realistic middle ground, one that makes a difference without feeling overwhelming. With plenty of practical tips and inspiring stories, Meat Me Halfway offers a thoughtful, balanced take on eating in a way that’s good for the planet.

I worked alongside the talented team at Yoke to create a series of motion graphics that were featured during the documentary’s interview segments. It was an exciting process bringing these illustrations to life, blending a variety of styles, including vector art, hand-drawn elements, and even 3D visuals.

Yoke provided the storyboards and illustrations and my job was to bring them to life in After Effects, animating the textures and brushstrokes using Procreate on my iPad. I had a lot of fun with this project, especially seeing how the clean look of the vector art worked so well with the more natural feel of the hand-drawn style.
